The nail wrap market has exploded in recent years thanks to advances in the adhesive and printing technologies involved. People are also loving that they can get amazing results at home without paying one million dollars and having to wear the same nails for two to four weeks (unless you'd like to, in which case, we have some suggestions!)
With so many shops, so many Amazon listings, and so many Etsy Shops, how are you supposed to choose your favorites!?
Well, it's actually a lot easier than you might think, because here's the thing: most nail wraps are very similar.
Let us explain ...
First, Some Context:
We write elsewhere about the fact that most online nail wrap shops are retailers, rather than true brands. There are a handful of Chinese manufacturers producing high-quality nail polish wraps. We buy from them, then sell to you!
Each manufacturer produces a few series of nail wraps. These are different products: they may have different ingredients, come in different shapes and sizes, have different application procedures, or be of differing thicknesses, etc.
Within each series, the manufacturers also offer both stock designs and customization of the design.
Stock designs are created by the manufacturer and are then placed in a catalog for buyers to choose from. This is why you'll see many of the same designs in different nail wrap shops. They haven't poached each other's creativity; they've simply chosen to sell the same stock product! It's just like finding the same Michael Kors shirt in both Macy's and Dillard's.
When a buyer asks a manufacturer for a custom, or "exclusive" design, they work with the manufacturer to create original artwork for the nail wrap; however, the actual product remains the same. The adhesive and other technology is unchanged, so the wrap should perform in exactly the same fashion as the stock designs.
So, Wait - I can get the same product from all of these different places?
Why yes, you can! Virtually every nail wrap shop available online sells the same products from a handful of Chinese manufacturers.
The exceptions to this are usually Korean-based brands, such as Dashing Diva, Ohora, and other semi-cured gel companies, or the OG brands, like Color Street. If it's a nail wrap made in China, it's likely one of the stock series/designs we discuss here.
This is great news for the consumer, and for retailers! Consumers can feel confident trying out smaller shops with different design options; and retailers can feel confident that the products they're considering carrying are popular with consumers!
So, What do YOU offer, Exactly?
